Pilates is a form of exercise that was first developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s, and it continues to evolve today. The Pilates method focuses on core muscle strengthening, improving postural alignment and promoting optimal movement patterns. As such, it can be highly effective in decreasing pain and improving mobility following an acute injury or more chronic disability. Pilates training is enjoying ever-increasing popularity, both as a fitness work-out and as an important form of rehabilitation.
Toronto Physiotherapy works closely with Riverdale Pilates, a renowned Pilates studio in the city of Toronto. Riverdale Pilates delivers exceptional Pilates instruction for both rehabilitation and non-rehabilitation clients. All instructors have achieved certification in The Pilates Process, a rehabilitative training method developed by Riverdale Pilates owner, Laura Helsel. Many instructors also have a strong foundation of Pilates training in the Stott Pilates Method. The highly skilled instructors at Riverdale Pilates prioritize the precision and quality of movement in their training sessions, and can adapt the program to suit each individual’s goals, ability level, and body type. The Pilates method used at Riverdale Pilates is of such quality that many physiotherapists, physicians, massage therapists, and chiropractors refer their patients for this expert training, with great results.
