Toronto Physiotherapy is a Lymphedema Therapy Clinic offering Lymphedema treatment and symptom management services including:
Our clinic is conveniently located at Broadview and Danforth, East Toronto.
Lymphedema ("lymphoedema") is a form of chronic swelling ( "edema") resulting from poor drainage of lymphatic fluid ("lymph"). The causes of lymphedema range from congenital abnormalities (Primary Lymphedema) to a side effect of cancer treatments including radiation and surgery (Secondary Lymphedema). Although swelling can be visible, the symptoms of lymphedema are not always obvious and may include aching, tingling, and feelings of heaviness in the affected limb. Individuals with lymphedema can lead normal and active lifestyles by employing lymphedema prevention measures to minimize their lymphatic 'load', and through lymphedema treatment including the use of compression garments and Manual Lymphatic Drainage / lymphatic Massage.
At Toronto Physiotherapy we are certified in Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT). CDT is an integrated approach to lymphedema management that includes Manual Lymphatic Drainage / lymphatic massage, compression wrapping, and compression garments. We are also a certified Lymphedema Compression Garment Authorizer for the Ontario Assistive Devices Grant Program. In addition to this, Lymphatic therapy at Toronto Physiotherapy is provided by a Registered Physiotherapist or Registered Massage Therapist. As a result, Lymphedema treatment at our clinic is covered under any extended health care benefits for physiotherapy or massage therapy.
We are passionate about treating, educating and supporting individuals with lymphedema, and have experience treating both Primary and Secondary Lymphedema. Our Clinic Director Lindsay Davey has a special interest in lymphedema arising from cancer therapy. Prior to pursuing post-graduate training in physiotherapy, and specialty training in Combined Decongestive Therapy, Lindsay completed a graduate degree in cancer research at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Lindsay has treated cancer patients for a variety of orthopedic issues, pain, scar management, lymphedema, and for their re-conditioning and exercise needs.
